About me

Hi! I'm Yulia. I was born and raised in Russia and now live and work in the UK. My background and experiences have shaped my perspective as an artist, giving me a deep connection to the themes of resilience, justice, and human rights that run through my work. .

I have recently completed an MA in Illustration with Falmouth University — a challenging and inspiring journey that has greatly enriched my creative practice. It has strengthened my artistic voice, expanded my use of materials, and deepened my commitment to telling stories that matter.

Passion for Political Art

As an artist, my passion lies in capturing the world around me through illustration — but my purpose goes far beyond creating aesthetically pleasing images. I believe in using my skills to raise awareness and inspire change.

My practice combines illustration, textiles, and collage to confront urgent political and human-rights issues. My recent MA project, Inconvenient Women, tells the stories of female political prisoners in modern Russia, translating their experiences of fear, resilience, and endurance into tactile, stitched narratives.

I work with fabric, thread, and paper not only for their visual qualities, but for their ability to carry metaphor — frayed edges and layered textures become acts of care, repair, and witness. Through this material language, I aim to foster empathy, challenge indifference, and spark dialogue about the value of freedom and democracy.
